Carousel client CLAAS UK, opens new UK parts warehouse

Serving CLAAS dealers and customers throughout the UK and Ireland, the new warehouse has seen the relocation of nearly half a million parts. The new building is an important element of the redevelopment of CLAAS UK’s Saxham headquarters, which is also nearing completion.

About the new UK Parts Warehouse

The new building totals 48,650m3 and will carry more than 500,000 parts weighing 750 tonnes. All parts are now stored under one roof and the warehouse will now boast an annual throughput of over 2,000 tonnes of CLAAS parts.

During the last four weeks, around 24,000 line items have been packed and moved into the new building, and another 20,000 lines will be added in the coming weeks.  Larger items will be stored on 45 metres of cantilever racking and the amount of bulk racking has been doubled, while a mezzanine area holds 70% of the warehouse’s total contents.

For greater efficiency and increased flow of parts through the building, the ‘Goods In’ area is 60% larger than before, the ‘Packing’ area has been doubled, and ‘Dispatch’ is also 40% bigger.

The secure customs area for airfreight to Ireland has also been doubled, which will help reduce delays post-Brexit. All parts are identified and located using a scan and bar code system and a new ‘Serpentine’ row system has been installed to provide improved pick rate accuracy and efficiency.

How Carousel supports CLAAS UK

CLAAS UK aims to deliver parts to dealers ‘faster than Amazon Prime’ and this is supported by a fast, reliable and flexible service. By utilising Carousel’s By:NIGHT European service, Carousel delivers parts to dealers across the UK and Ireland from both its UK Parts Warehouse and Germany-based European Distribution Centre. Their solution includes both our European road and air-connect services, plus direct to dealer deliveries.

During the incoming harvest season Carousel will operate a seven-day-a-week service to ensure that parts ordered by 7pm can be delivered pre-noon, across the UK and Ireland. Whilst service levels may need to flex, due to the ongoing Coronavirus crisis, a 24-hour collection from Saxham remains operational.

David McEwen Smith, Parts Manager at CLAAS UK said: “We have a very strong working relationship with Carousel and our partnership with them has enabled us to give an excellent service to our dealer network. This relationship grows stronger every year as we make new improvements to our service. Yes, we have some challenging times ahead, but together we will get through this and come out stronger on the other side.’’

Kevin Turner, Carousel Chief Sales Officer, said: “The importance of secure food production across Europe has never been so important and we’re proud to be working with CLAAS UK – particularly during this time – to support them in their quest to keep farmers farming.

“Having worked with CLAAS UK since 2003, we’re excited by the opening of their new UK Parts Warehouse – one that’s a real landmark for the company – and one that we know will only enhance their service offering and bring yet more buyer confidence in the brand.”
